Cool water, fast currents and rock ledges make the Hiwassee River
the perfect
family adventure. The Hiwassee is a Tennessee State Scenic River and is simply beautiful
and has enough whitewater to keep everyone interested but not enough where you need
a guide. The Hiwassee River begins high on a ridge near the
Appalachian Trail in
North Georgia, meanders through the Georgia and North Carolina countryside then
plunges into Tennessee at the TVA Appalachian Power House. After all this mountain
meandering the Hiwassee has one ridge left to clear on its surge towards the Tennessee
River. And it’s a beautiful, scenic setting as the crystal clear river makes a dramatic
horseshoe bend at the foot of Tennessee’s Hood Mountain. The Hiwassee River is truly
a worthy member of the states scenic river system.
Adventures Unlimited has partnered with Hiwassee Outfitters
to offer our guests
the highest quality service and equipment. Our 5 mile Hiwassee Adventure begins
at the Appalachian Power House and then a wonderful float down one of the most scenic
rivers in the East. Numerous class I and II rapids spice thing up keeping even the
hardened adventure seekers excited. Finishing with an exciting class II+ run, “Devil’s
Shoals” and then a relaxing float into Reliance.
We offer the finest river equipment available:
Our solo "funyak" is made by Aire Corporation, the largest producer of whitewater
craft in America. It provides the best ride available on the Hiwassee for a single
person. It is paddled similar to a kayak with a double-blade paddle. You can do
anything in this boat that you can do in a kayak, but you don't have to be an expert
paddler to enjoy the rapids. The boat can easily be paddled by a novice. If you
fall out, just grab the boat and climb back in. The boat is also self-bailing so
you never have to stop to empty water out of the boat and you are always in control.
Our two-person "funyak" is made by Aire Corporation, the largest producer of whitewater
craft in America. It provides the best ride available on the Hiwassee for two people.
It is paddled similar to a canoe with single-blade paddles. You can do anything
in this boat that you can do in a canoe, but you don't have to be an expert paddler
to enjoy the rapids. The boat can easily be paddled by novices. One person can easily
paddle this boat with a double-blade paddle if you want to bring your sweetie along
just for the ride. The boat is also self-bailing so you never have to stop to empty
water out of the boat and you are always in control.
Our three/four/five-person raft is made by Aire Corporation, the largest producer
of whitewater craft in America. The multi-faceted Puma is a superb boat for a family
of three, four, or five people for a safe and enjoyable ride down the scenic Hiwassee
River. However, the Puma raft is also a high-performance raft that can be paddled
by two people just like a canoe. It can be surfed in rapids just like a kayak or
canoe but is as safe as a raft. The boat is also self-bailing so you never have
to stop to empty water out of the boat and you are always in control. A great boat
for fishing the Hiwassee River with one/two people.
The Perception Torrent provides whitewater fun with open-top freedom. It is a true
sit-on-top kayak for whitewater, paddled with a double-blade paddle. Extremely stable
and forgiving, but highly maneuverable and quick making the Torrent the perfect
boat for the Hiwassee. If you wanted to try a kayak but were concerned about being
sealed in or lacked the skill necessary… here’s your opportunity to give this awesome
experience a try!
